Syracuse junior safety Daivon Ellison to transfer

Ellison has one year of eligibility remaining.

Junior safety Daivon Ellison plans to transfer from Syracuse, he announced Tuesday on Twitter.

Ellison experienced a fall from grace at SU in the last year. After recording 90 tackles during his sophomore season in 2016 — good for third on the team — he totaled just eight in 2017. He did not travel to SU’s game at Florida State because of a violation of team rules.

His playing time a season ago came as a result of Antwan Cordy’s injury. But even after Cordy and new arrival Jordan Martin got hurt this year, Ellison was not the one to fill the void. Those snaps went to redshirt junior Rodney Williams and Ellison was lost among SU’s newfound depth in the secondary.

Ellison has one season of NCAA eligibility left. If he goes to another FBS school, he must sit out the 2018 season.
