Dominick Parker’s preliminary hearing waived

Former freshman walk-on Dominick Parker waived his preliminary hearing Thursday morning. He was added to the basketball roster earlier this month but is no longer listed.

Former Syracuse freshman walk-on Dominick Parker appeared in Syracuse City Court Thursday morning, when his preliminary hearing was waived. His next court appearance has not yet been set.

Sometimes, the defense may waive the right to a preliminary hearing because the defendant plans to plead guilty and wants to avoid publicity. Parker was arrested and charged Friday with sexual abuse in the first degree, according to a release Wednesday from the Syracuse Police Department.

Parker, 18, was accused of having sexual contact on Sept. 15 with an 18-year-old female “while she was incapable of giving consent to such contact,” according to SPD. The alleged incident occurred on Stadium Place, which is located west of Sadler Hall and the SU College of Law.

Parker appeared in front of a judge at 9:30 a.m. and left in handcuffs. Outside of the court house, he stood with his lawyer and family members. When a TV camera left, he knelt over and put his hands on his knees.

Parker was sent to the Onondaga Justice Center on Friday and was arraigned Saturday.

The Stamford, New York, native had been added to the SU roster earlier this month. He is no longer listed on the Orange’s roster though he is still listed in the SU student directory.
